Children's Course | 17th Annual Couples Classic Golf Tournament
Dear Friends of The Children's Course / The First Tee of Greater Portland,
We are excited to host the 17th annual “Couples Classic” Golf tournament, benefiting The Children’s Course and The First Tee of Greater Portland! It has been three years since we have held this fun event at our course and we are proud to showcase our newly remodeled clubhouse!
The event takes place on the evening of Thursday, July 16th at The Children’s Course. Teams consist of six players (three couples each). Men and Women each play a scramble, the team score is men’s scramble, plus women’s scramble. Barbeque dinner, beverages and prizes included. Click HERE for REGISTRATION.
We are thrilled to share with you that a great deal of growth has taken place in our youth development organization. We are now serving more than 13,000 children each year, through The First Tee golf and life skills curriculum that we offer at 6 different golf locations: The Children’s Course, The OGA course, Heron Lakes GC, Glendoveer GC RiverRidge GC, and our newest location Colwood GC. We also offer our program at 26 elementary schools where golf and life skills curriculum is taught through physical education classes.
Additionally, we implemented a one on one mentoring program for children from a low income residential park located within 1Ž2 mile of our golf course. The focus of this program is to help children with their homework and expose them to educational outings, such as a trip to University of Portland and a tour of the local library, fire and police station. For many of the children in this program, their parents do not speak English, so they struggle to be able to complete their homework outside of school. In class, participants learn life skills that they can apply off the golf course: interpersonal skills, goal setting, establishing a team of advisors, and self-management (body and mind).
